How to get there

Most of you will come directly from Voss in Norway, and the easiest of course is to join together avd drive. But of course not all of you will come directly from Voss and not all of you can come by car. Thats is why we will try to give you some more alternativs on this page.

By Car: From Voss:
Most convinient is to drive to Trondheim, and then cross the border to Sweden and the last bit to Åre. Here is one way to get there:
  • Drive E16 Voss-Fagernes (you will drive thru Europes longest tunnel for cars ca 20minutes).
  • Drive Road51 Fagernes-Vågåmo
From there you can find a shortcut to E6. If not: Drive Road15 Vågåmo-Otta
  • Drive E6 Otta-(past Trondheim) Stjørdal
  • Drive E14 Stjørdal-Åre
  • Continue 30 minutes after crossing the Swedish border.

From somwhere else:
Use
map26 or ViaMichelin to find a route.
Spesial tip: The roads are much faster in Sweden than Norway if you drive from other countries in Europe.

By Train: From Voss:
There is a train station in Voss, and a train station in Åre.
Buy a ticket Voss-Trondheim at
NSB or the ticket office in Voss, and a ticket Trondheim-Åre at the ticket office in Trondheim or here at "nabotoget".

From somwhere else:
Buy your tickets at your ticket office. If they can not find Åre, then ask for Østersund, which is the closest large city. You can also buy tickets at the
Swedish railway company.

By Aeroplane: From Voss:
There is now big airport in Voss. The closest is in Bergen (Flesland), 1,5 hour drive (or train) from Voss.

There is no airport in Åre either, and the closest one is Østersund, 1 hour drive (or train) from Åre. But normally it is much cheaper to go to Trondheim airport in Norway, 1,5 hour drive (or train) from Åre. Make sure you have transportation from Trondheim to Åre. There is a train called "nabotoget" that travel twice a day.

Therefor we recomend you to take the train to Bergen airport-Flesland, and buy a ticket to Trondheim airport-Værnes.
Still, check the price to travel to Østersund in Sweden as well. Sometimes it's just as cheap, and you do not risk to get stuck one day in Trondheim;)

From somwhere else:
Find a ticket to Østersund in Sweden and take the bus or train to Åre from there.

If you travel from Norway it is often cheaper to travel within Norway. Then you should buy a ticket to Trondheim. Make sure you have transportation from Trondheim to Åre. There is a train called "nabotoget" that travel twice a day.
